Who we are Today

First Baptist Church of Oak Park is situated in Suburban Chicago, just outside the city’s western border. Congregational geographic dispersion is evenly divided between those living within two miles of the church, and those living as far away as 20 miles. About 10% of members live out of state.

Sunday service is at 10:00 AM, with Sunday School for all ages, before and after the service. Childcare and Nursery Service is available during the worship service.

We are blessed with a congregation that is diverse in age, race, gender, occupation, and type of family unit . This composition reflects in general the population characteristics of our community. We are strongly committed to the ABC/USA and adhere to our Baptist beliefs and practices.

The Leadership Team, headed by a Chair, governs the day-to-day congregational affairs and is comprised of six Teams (Education, Service, Preschool and Kindergarten, Spiritual Life & Worship, Evangelism and Ministry Support), two standing Committees (Pastoral Relations and Nominating), and ancillary committees and task teams. Elected officers serve for a term of two years.

We are known as a friendly, welcoming congregation and our diversity brings an enhancement to our church life and fellowship as we all share a strong commitment to Christ, our church, and to each other. We value our strong tradition of generosity and compassion not only to our members, but in our regular Mission and other support, to local and international endeavors.
